Wasatch Back 2008 - Logan to Park City

I got to participate in the 2008 Wasatch Back this weekend. It was a tough, tough race. Our team, the Steel Serpents, started at1:40 pm on Friday and finished in an impressive 28:37:12. Yes, as in 28 hours, 37 minutes, and 12 seconds. The Wasatch Back is a 12-person relay race that goes from Logan to Park City, covering 180 miles. It was a CRAZY thing to do. Our team averaged about 9:30/mile overall. My van, Van 1, got to sleep from about 5 am - 7 am on Saturday morning, but the rest of the time we just ran and cheered on our teammates. I'm not sure if Van 2 slept at all.

Each person in this relay ran 3 separate legs ranging from 3 to 8 miles and also ranging from Easy to Very Difficult (based on hills, etc). It was very hot during the day, very cold during the night, and our souveniers consist of loads of sweaty clothes, bad sunburns, great memories, and one finisher's medal each. I personally slept about 10 and a half hours last night and then took a 3 hour nap today. It was nice to recover a little bit! I hope my teammates have had the opportunity to do the same. Here are some of the highlight photos

My first finish

My second finish - I'm the reflective vest in the back.

My glorious third finish

Big finale in Park City!

There are a lot more photos (click here to see them)

We finished 282nd out of 545 finishing teams. In our category, we came in 22nd out of 57. I'm pretty impressed with our results!

Good job, I had another friend do that, and she was so sore that she didn't run until the next wednesday. I actually am coming back for the St. George Marathon, so I hope to see you there!
